As the youngest daughter of nine children, Susan Scott has been singing since she was a young child. Although she was born in Alberta, Canada, she has spent most of her life living in the U.S. including Arizona, New Mexico Idaho, and for the last 9 years has called Eastern, Kentucky home.


From the early age of nine, she has been no stranger to the stage having been involved in numerous competitions, festivals, telethons, bands, choirs, oratorios, and church services and functions throughout various locations in the US and Canada. Some of which include the Salmon Valley Country Music Festival in Prince George, British Columbia, and the Pacific National Exhibition Youth Talent Search in Vancouver, British Columbia, where she won first and third runner up in two consecutive years. After high school, Susan attended Brigham Young University-Idaho where she received her Associate of Arts degree. During her time at BYU-Idaho Susan sang with the university’s Women’s Choir who appeared on world-wide satellite T.V. on two different occasions during an annual conference for her church. It was at BYU-Idaho that Susan also received vocal instruction in classical as well as the belt/pop vocal technique. In 2005 Susan began attending Big Sandy Community and Technical College and the Morehead State University extended campus in Prestonsburg, KY where she soon became a member of The Big Sandy Singers, a country/gospel group composed of students attending the college and university. The group released several compilation CD’s as well as solo CD’s. In 2006 Susan released her first solo CD “Wish For You” recorded in the college’s on-campus recording studio.

 

In 2007 she auditioned and earned a spot with Billie Jean Osbourne’s Kentucky Opry in Prestonsburg, KY. That same year she began teaching the belt/pop vocal technique as a vocal instructor at the Mountain Arts Center- one of her favorite endeavors. In 2009 Susan began singing and traveling with the band “Breakaway” with notable band members such as James and Tony Whited, Jody Conley, Keith Caudill and Cody Branham.

 

Susan is an advocate for arts programs in Eastern KY. She currently teaches workshops for young children and adults during the twice annual Arts Education Series at the Mountain Arts Center.


Other interesting facts: Susan graduated with her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 2008 and is currently pursuing and Med. in Applied Behavior Analysis through Arizona State University. Her interests and hobbies include: sign language, writing, photography, playing the guitar, and being active outdoors. Her favorite role is being a mother to her nine year old autistic son, Kaden. Her most recent and favorite hobby is taking up archery lessons with Kaden.  

 

As an artist, Susan's goal is to uplift those around her with the gift of music. “It’s a blessing to be able to touch others through music.  I believe music has an amazing power to uplift, heal, and empower; to bridge the gap between words and feelings.”


Some of Susan’s musical influences include: Reba McEntire, Linda Rhonstadt, KD Lang, Sherly Crow , Linda Eder, Celine Dion, Martina McBride, Heart, Journey, Lorri Morgan, Ronnie Milsap, George Strait, Donna Summer, Gladys Knight among many many others.
